How to Watch The New Pope From Anywhere

Here's how you can keep up with Jude Law and John Malkovich in the popular TV series from all around the world.

The New Pope

The original Young Pope series was popular, but the sequel — we think — brought the show to new heights. And, unsurprisingly, people all around the world can’t wait for the next episode of The New Pope to arrive.

But not everyone can access it, at least not without a proper tool. That’s kinda stupid but also kinda expected. Nevertheless, the fact that a local cable operator hasn’t picked up The New Pope doesn’t mean you can’t watch it — we’re here to help you join the party. But first, let us see…

What The New Pope is all about?

The New Pope is a drama television series created and directed by Paolo Sorrentino for Sky Atlantic, HBO and Canal+. It is a continuation of the 2016 series The Young Pope, originally announced as its second season.

The nine-episode series stars Jude Law, reprising his role as Pope Pius XIII, and John Malkovich as Pope John Paul III — the titular “New Pope”. It was co-produced by European production companies The Apartment, Wildside, Haut et Court TV and Mediapro.

The series premiered on 10 January 2020 on Sky Atlantic Italy, on 12 January on Sky Atlantic UK and on 13 January on HBO and Canal+.

How to watch The New Pope in the U.S.

You’ll need an HBO subscription in order to watch the series in the U.S. and a VPN to keep your access while visiting other countries. For that to happen, you will first have to fire-up your VPN app, connect to a US-based server and then open HBO’s website or the HBO NOW app.

It is a relatively straightforward process that you can also use to keep access to all other US-only services and content providers.

Outside of the US, the situation is very different and it all depends on where you live. Which brings us to our next section…

How to watch The New Pope from anywhere

First, you should determine whether The New Pope is airing on a channel in your country, or the country you plan to visit. Next, you should see whether you can watch that channel from your computer, phone, tablet and so on. If you can, well, you can just visit the appropriate website, click some buttons, sign-up (or register), sit back and relax. No need for any additional steps.

On the other hand, if that’s not an option and you still want to watch The New Pope, you’ll have to trick HBO’s geoblocking filters. A VPN is the right tool for the task, allowing you to first connect to a US-based server and then to HBO’s service. This will trick HBO’s software of thinking that you are in the U.S. while in reality, you may be on the opposite side of the planet.

A valid subscription to HBO NOW is still required, though. If you don’t have one, you can buy it with a gift card — since HBO NOW only US-based credit cards. For that, we suggest visiting MyGiftCardSUPPLY.com where you can buy gift cards for various streaming services, HBO being one of them. Other popular gift cards on MyGiftCardSUPPLY.com include those for Hulu, Sling TV, Netflix and so on.

With a gift card in your (virtual) hand, go to HBO NOW and register for a new account. Pay for the service with a newly bought gift card and you’re good to go.

A VPN offers much more…

In addition to letting you watch The New Pope and other shows and movies, a good VPN lets you do many other things, as well. For start, you get to regain your privacy, making it really hard (if not impossible) for government agencies and corporations to follow you online. You get to anonymously browse the web, download files and do just about anything you ever wanted without worrying that Big Brother is watching you.

Furthermore, you get to stay connected to popular news sites and social media services while traveling to high-censorship countries – where that may not be possible without a VPN.

Related to the previous point, you also get to conduct your business in a secure manner, connecting from previously defined IP addresses to your office wherever it happens to be. Likewise, connecting to public Wi-Fi hotspots is no longer risky, with VPN encrypting all communication between your device and the server. Which, again, is the same capability that prevents even your ISP from knowing what you’re doing online. And that could matter, with some ISPs throttling internet speeds for certain activities such as video streaming and torrenting.

All in all, with a VPN – you get online freedom. And that, we think, is important. We suggest you start by going through our list of Best of the Best VPNs, which has all the field-tested services and you can hardly go wrong by picking any one of them. So make your pick and thank us later. 😉
