Like any other social media, TikTok is looking (you could also say “spying”) what its users are watching every second on the platform. It is then using that information, to serve you even more videos you might be interested in watching.
As far as TikTok — and other social media sites for that matter — is concerned, this tactic works like a charm. Users stay glued to their phones, endlessly browsing clips that, in most cases, won’t make them smarter. Heck, they can hardly expect to get some quality entertainment time. But that’s just the way things are these days.
Anyway, in this article, we want to show you how you can turn on “Restricted” mode so you could get videos of, should we say, higher quality. This is rather important if you have a child who, like many of today’s children, can’t get enough of TikTok.
How to turn on “Restricted Mode” in TikTok
Go to the TikTok mobile app and:
- Tap Profile in the bottom right.
- Tap the 3-line icon in the top right.
- Go to “Digital Wellbeing” => “Restricted Mode”.
- Follow the steps in the app
And you’re done.
As noted above, turning on “Restricted Mode” can help limit the appearance of content that may not be appropriate for some audiences. And if you notice something that slipped through TikTok filters, feel free to report that clip so they could improve their algorithm.
We should also add that the ability to turn on “Restricted Mode” is only available in the TikTok app, and not on mobile web or desktop browsers.
What about Family Pairing?
If you haven’t heard of it before, Family Pairing allows parents and teens to customize their safety settings — allowing parents to link their TikTok account to their teen’s and set controls including Restricted Mode.
There are also other useful settings available in Family Pairing, such as Screen Time Management but that goes beyond the scope of this article.
If you have a child, you will want to check out this section more thoroughly. Turning on the Restricted Mode is definitely a good start, though.
