Marvel Shows are Leaving Netflix on March 1st

Long before Disney+ was even an idea, Marvel shows lived on Netflix, starting with Daredevil which hit Netflix back in 2015. Afterward, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist were released — all leading into the crossover limited series The Defenders. Also, there was The Punisher, cementing Netflix as a network with the largest stable of superhero shows out there. Until Disney+ came into the scene, that is.

Then, at a first glance of Disney’s own streaming service, Marvel shows started getting canceled on Netflix. After all, it made sense for Marvel’s parent company Disney to have its superheroes on their own streaming platform.

In that sense, just recently we saw Daredevil stars D’Onofrio (Kingpin) and Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock/Daredevil) crossing over into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Hawkeye and Spider-Man: No Way Home, respectively. No plans have been announced yet for the rest of the Defenders, but with Daredevil and Kingpin already brought in – opening the door for other characters, as well.

In the meantime, Daredevil is currently still on Netflix, and it even saw a bump in viewership when D’Onofrio and Cox turned up in the MCU. Disney, naturally, could not have been happy that it was giving its competitor Netflix a boost. And now…

All Marvel shows are leaving Netflix on March 1st

When you think about it, it was just a matter of time until we got some kind of announcement for this. According to What’s-On-Netflix, all of the Marvel shows currently on Netflix are showing removal notices and will be leaving the service on March 1, 2022. These include:

  • Daredevil (Seasons 1-3)
  • Jessica Jones (Seasons 1-3)
  • Luke Cage (Seasons 1-2)
  • Iron Fist (Seasons 1-2)
  • The Defenders (Limited Series)
  • The Punisher (Seasons 1-2)

That’s more than 160 episodes worth of content leaving Netflix all at once. You still have more than a week to watch these shows on Netflix but afterwards, who knows.

Where will Netflix’s Marvel shows go?

As I’m writing this, we are unsure where Netflix’s Marvel shows will end up. From what we understood, they won’t be hitting Disney+ on March 1st but could appear there at a later date.

Even though Netflix paid Marvel the licenses to use their characters, the streaming giant spent a small fortune to make those shows. And despite the fact that these series helped Netflix, they almost certainly want some of that production money back from Disney — presuming they do pick up these shows.

In the meantime, if you want to watch some of the lesser-known Marvel characters in action, now’s your time. Again, you have about a week to do that. So get the popcorn, sit back and enjoy the party. You can miss the Iron Fist, as far as we’re concerned.
