Anonymous Twitter?

Yes, it is possible to use Twitter anonymously and with a VPN, this goes to a whole new level...

Twitter anonymous

First, let’s make this clear – you don’t need a VPN in order to be semi-anonymous on Twitter. You can just open a new account and select a different username (Twitter handle).

The problem could appear in a high-censorship country where the government could be spying on its citizens. For those places, you’re best off using a VPN so you could sign-up and then use Twitter from a different virtual location.

Here’s how to do it.

Step 1: Get a VPN

In case you’re not sure which service to use, check our page with the Best VPNs for Twitter. There, you will find field-tested services that won’t let you down no matter what you throw at them – not just Twitter.

Then, you should connect to some server — it could be in the same country that you’re in or some other one — and sign-up for Twitter again. Create a profile and proceed to step 2.

Step 2: Build your Twitter presence

I guess the idea is to be legit albeit anonymous on Twitter so that people could take you and your points of view seriously. That being said, you’ll want to start tweeting and following other users.

You may also decide to create one or a few lists in order to appear even more “legit” to your prospective audiences. As far as we can tell, that “legit” part is the whole point of this “exercise.” Perhaps you cannot freely share your opinions so you’re doing it anonymously.

Step 3: Reach out to the people you want

Once you’ve established your new presence on Twitter, it’s time to spread the message. Find users you want to reach out to and start following them. In many cases, some of them will follow you back. Or you may want to @mention them in your posts to engage them that way.

Whatever you want to do, it is best that you don’t start from a clean sheet but to have some backlog. That’s what Step 2 was all about.

Now mix and repeat this process until you gather your audience to help you spread the message. Being smart helps a lot. 😉

You may have a clear goal set about what you want to accomplish with an anonymous Twitter account but you may also decide to keep using that account even after that goal has been reached. It’s up to you. In any case, we’re glad if you’ve used some of the advice we’ve shared here. And please do get in touch if you have something else to add to this story. Thanks. 😉
