Formerly called CBS All Access, Paramount+ is a video on-demand streaming service owned and operated by CBS Interactive, a subsidiary of ViacomCBS. It offers movies, news, cartoons and comedies — including its original content, content newly aired on CBS’s broadcast properties, and content from the ViacomCBS library.
Paramount+ is still not available all across the world and in order to watch it, you’ll need a VPN to first connect to a US-based server and then fire-up the site or app of the service. After that, you are free to watch as many movies and TV shows as you like.
But you should know that a VPN has much more to offer. Perhaps its most important feature is that it will keep you anonymous online so that the likes of Google and Facebook can’t track you down. And the same applies to various government agencies which seemingly can’t get enough of our data.
We think everyone should be using a VPN and these are your best options for Paramount+ while also covering all other needs you may have:
- 5,000+ servers in the network
- Easy to use - install it and forget it
- One license is good for up to 6 devices
- Strict zero-logs policy
- 30-day money-back guarantee
- Chrome extension is just a proxy
- You can't pay with PayPal
In addition, NordVPN will have you covered in all other scenarios. Whether you want to keep a low profile on the web, bypass ridiculous content bans and censorship, download and upload files via BitTorrent — this is a VPN that you can rely on. And we love it for that. Highly recommended.
- Feature-rich yet easy to use
- One of the best VPNs around
- Strong no-logging policy
- Reliable support you can reach 24/7
- Limited number of servers in Africa and the Middle East
- Kinda pricey
Add other ExpressVPN features to the mix and you get a service that is hard to beat and is, therefore, one of our favorites. You won't regret buying it.
- It's super fast!
- Works with Netflix, BBC and others
- Easy to use apps, browser extensions
- You can try it for free!
- Some advanced features are not configurable
- Doesn't work in high-censorship countries
In addition, you can also rely on Hotspot Shield for torrenting, where too you can expect fast download and upload speeds; and the same goes for mobile users — its apps are super easy to use and work out of the box.
As that's typically the case with most VPN services out there, the longer you commit - the better deal you get. However, what makes Hotspot Shield even better is the fact that it offers a 7-day free trial of its service. A few other top VPN providers do the same. Plus, its money-back guarantee lasts for 45 days, making for a risk-free purchase. Cause, you can always get your money back. Sweet and just the way we like it.
- One the best VPNs for torrenting
- Works well with Netflix
- Simple setup on all popular devices
- Strict zero-logs policy
- Doesn't work with BBC iPlayer
- Doesn't work in China
The situation can be different with BBC iPlayer and we've had a hard time finding the server we can reliably use. In the end, we did found a server that works but it took as some time. After that, we've got a buffer-free experience every single time.
IPVanish is best used for torrenting and streaming with Kodi. Also, the service doesn't keep any logs, which is always a plus in our book.
- Reliable download and upload speeds
- Works with Netflix and BBC iPlayer
- Strict zero-logs policy
- Lets you use it on unlimited number of devices
- Low number of servers in Africa and Australia
You can rely on it for streaming (we've tested it with all popular services), with included extra features like CleanWeb and MultiHop, delivering a that much better — and more secure — experience.
Surfshark, the company, is based in the British Virgin Islands and with its zero-logs policy makes for a powerful combo to anyone looking to keep its web whereabouts under the radar.
The service is easy to use and comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee.
In the beginning, there was CBS All Access…
CBS All Access was launched back in 2014, selling for $5.99 per month with ads and $9.99 per month ad-free. Announced as the first over-the-top (OTT) offering by an American broadcast television network, the service initially encompassed the network’s existing streaming portal at CBS.com and its mobile app for smartphones and tablet computers. Soon afterward, CBS All Access was also available on Roku and on Chromecast.
In addition to providing full-length episodes of past and present CBS programs, the service allows live programming streams of local CBS affiliates in 194 markets — including SEC sports and the NFL.
Great content helped CBS All Access grow during the years, with the introduction of Star Trek: Discovery attracting a record number of sign-ups. A few other events that brought in more subscribers were the 60th Annual Grammy Awards and Super Bowl LIII.
During 2018, the service expanded to Canada and later on to Australia, where it was launched as 10 All Access.
CBS All Access changes to Paramount+
In February 2020, CNBC reported that ViacomCBS was in discussions to launch a larger premium streaming offering, combining CBS All Access with content from Paramount Pictures, the Domestic Media Networks division, and Pluto TV. The service would include an ad-free tier and a premium tier that includes Showtime’s streaming service. The company would maintain its existing streaming platforms while marketing the new service to users of these other services.
At around that time, we’ve learned that the expanded service would include content from MTV, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, BET, and Smithsonian Channel — as well as a library of 30,000 television series episodes and up to 1,000 film titles from Paramount’s film and television divisions and CBS Media Ventures, and expanded live news and sports offerings.
On September 15, 2020, the decision was announced to rebrand CBS All Access to Paramount+ in 2021, along with plans for more international expansion under the new name.
Several new series were also announced for the service, including true crime series The Real Criminal Minds, MTV’s Behind the Music – The Top 40, a revival of the BET series The Game, Taylor Sheridan’s Lioness, and The Offer – a drama based on Albert S. Ruddy’s experiences filming The Godfather.
Paramount+ was launched on March 4 and before that, we’ve learned that the service would premiere new 2021 theatrical releases from Paramount Pictures such as A Quiet Place Part II, Mission: Impossible 7 and Paw Patrol: The Movie 45 days after their theatrical release.
Like all major streaming platforms, Paramount+ will (and already has) its original content, including that from the Star Track franchise. There are also other CBS series and shows like The Good Fight, Big Brother, The Twilight Zone, The Sponge Bob, and the Halo. Moreover, we’ve learned that Paramount+ would house new content based on several classic properties, including Flashdance, Frasier, iCarly, Beavis and Butt-Head, Reno 911!, and more.
Paramount+ already provides complete back catalogs of most of its current series, including a wide selection of episodes of classic series from the CBS Media Ventures program library, such as Star Trek, Cheers, MacGyver, Twin Peaks and CSI: Miami.
Then there’s sports programming that includes the UEFA Champions League and Europa League in European soccer, the National Women’s Soccer League, the NFL, and CONCACAF — among others.
Plus, there’s third-party content from other major studios that are available on Paramount+.
You need a VPN for Paramount+
Although the service will eventually be available all across the globe, you may want to watch it now. Or want to watch it from places where that’s not possible, like in your school or at work. That’s where a good VPN kicks in, unlocking the Internet in its entirety for you. And by doing so, it offers much more than letting you watch some streaming service, no matter how good it is. A good VPN will let you:
- Protect your privacy from the government and big corporations
- Bypass restrictions imposed by the government or various organizations
- Change your IP address so you get unrestricted access to all streaming services
- Encrypt and protect private data from cybercriminals
- Download files with BitTorrent anonymously
The top contenders that check all these boxes — while also let you access Paramount+ from anywhere — include the following:
