ExpressVPN and NordVPN are (arguably) two of the most popular VPNs out there. And unsurprisingly, many of the questions we receive are related to these two. “Which one should I get?” or “Which one is better?” — there are no easy answers but we’ll try to provide you with a solid comparison in this article.
What do you need a VPN for?
It is important to first understand what you need a VPN for. If you need it for torrenting or streaming — i.e. accessing services like Netflix and Hulu — both NordVPN and ExpressVPN will get the job done. And the same goes if you need a VPN for occasional web browsing – whichever service you get will work for you.
If you, however, plan to travel to places like China, we think ExpressVPN is a better choice. Despite the ongoing government crackdown on VPN services, it has managed to keep pace with the changes and is still one of the best options for bypassing the Great Firewall of China. So if that’s what you need – ExpressVPN is an obvious choice.
How many devices do you need to connect to a VPN?
ExpressVPN supports 5 simultaneous connections, meaning that 5 devices can be connected through its service at the same time. One of those devices could be your router which can “cover” multiple devices at the same time. In comparison, NordVPN offers 6 simultaneous connections and it too supports routers.
So which one is better?
Both ExpressVPN and NordVPN support all major platforms while providing a slew of extra features — all designed to keep your identity under the radar. ExpressVPN is arguably better for some users, thus it’s more expensive. And we like it just a little bit more.
So, if you have money to spare — or just don’t want to think about it — get their service. That being said, we cannot say that NordVPN is a loser of any kind — it too is offering an amazing service. It’s just that we personally prefer ExpressVPN. And we also had to choose one winner. 😉
