Vudu's library has over 24,000 movies and more than 8,000 TV shows, and even though it's restricted to users in the United States and Mexico, you can watch it from anywhere.

How to Watch Vudu From Anywhere

Vudu may not be popular like Netflix, but it definitely has a huge user base. This has a lot to do with its vast library of movies and TV shows that could be enjoyed from a number of different devices. The problem, however, is that access to Vudu is limited — or should I say geo-blocked — to users in the United States and Mexico.

If you’re a Vudu subscriber — or watch its ad-supported free content — you will want to keep that access even if you’re traveling abroad. And yes, that is possible – with a good VPN.

But first, let’s see what Vudu is all about, shall we?

What’s Vudu all about

Vudu is a content delivery and media technology company that distributes full-length movies over the Internet in the United States and Mexico. It does this with a content delivery network that uses a hybrid peer-to-peer TV technology.

Vudu began by only making its own set-top boxes — the Vudu Box and the Vudu XL — but today it primarily markets its software as a smart TV / connected TV platform and video on demand (VoD) distribution service to third-party consumer electronics devices. Vudu is also available via PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, iPad, Android TV, Apple TV (4th gen and 4K), TiVo Roamio, and Roku devices, as well as most smartphones and tablets via the Vudu app (Android and iOS) which also supports Chromecast use.

As of June 2019, Vudu’s selection contains over 24,000 movies and more than 8,000 TV shows, making it one of the largest streaming providers of its kind. The company has established content licensing contracts with all major movie studios as well as over 50 smaller and independent studios.

Movies are available to rent in standard-definition, HDX, and UHD formats. Most movies and TV shows are available to purchase in HDX format, while a growing number of titles are becoming available to own in 4K UHD format.

In March 2010, Vudu was acquired by Walmart.

How to watch Vudu from anywhere

Since the service is limited to users in the United States and Mexico, you will need a VPN in order to watch Vudu from anywhere. The good news is that most VPN providers have servers in the United States and Mexico which make the selection process that much easier. Nevertheless, we suggest checking out our page with Top VPNs for Streaming, all of which have been field-tested to deliver buffer-free experiences.

Once you start a VPN app, you should connect to a server in the United States (or Mexico) and that’s almost it. Now, login to Vudu and start watching all the movies you want. It’s actually that easy, and in fact — in order to keep your privacy protected — we even suggest doing this even if you’re connecting from the U.S. or Mexico.

A VPN is more than that…

Aside from unlocking geo-restricted content like Vudu — as well as Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video and so on — a VPN will also prevent anybody from spying on your online activity. It will do this by encrypting all the traffic coming to and from your device(s) — cause you can connect multiple devices to a VPN. Furthermore, some VPNs will even block ads on websites, providing you with an ad-free experience.

We think everyone should run a VPN on his/her computer and smartphone these days. In fact, whether you’re going to watch Vudu or not is of less importance. What you want is what we call an “unlocked experience” that lets you access all the content in the world. Plus, you don’t want to share your web whereabouts with any government or corporation. And that’s what VPN is all about.
