Although we’ve always deemed it one of the best VPNs out there, IPVanish’s apps were not on par with its (great) service. That is no longer the case, at least when it comes to its Android app — which has been revamped from the ground-up and is now better than ever.
This app update, according to IPVanish, delivers a new, refreshed design for an improved user experience for Android phones, tablets, and Android TV. It includes a brand-new user interface and comes equipped with an assortment of “killer features” to keep you safe online.
The new IPVanish Android app is just a start…
This app update is just a start and is described as the first iteration of IPVanish version 4 to be released on any platform. Featuring a new, modernized UI – it was designed with simplicity in mind, putting an improved user experience at the forefront.
And it’s not just the UI that has been revamped, the codebase is also new – delivering even faster performance and more reliable connections.
Also, WireGuard is now the default connection protocol for new installations of IPVanish, ensuring the “fastest and most secure encryption for all users.”
What’s new in the IPVanish Android app
Among the changes included in the new IPVanish app, we highlight the following:
Control connections from the Home screen
The home screen for mobile and Android TV has a simpler look made so that you can “set it and forget it”. Nevertheless, you can still control many features with just one touch. For instance, the old Activity Graph was swapped for a visual map to illustrate your connection source and connection status. Also, with a single button you can quickly connect (or disconnect) from the fastest VPN server available.
Navigation bar
Fixed to the bottom of all app screens, the newly added Navigation bar makes access throughout the IPVanish app quick and easy. If you wish to tinker more with advanced settings than the default, for instance, you can head to the Settings screen at any time without steering through multiple menus. The Navigation bar has direct links to the Home, Locations, Settings and Help.
Easy sorting and selection of Locations
In the new IPVanish VPN for Android, Locations is more intuitive than ever. You can now select cities or countries from this screen and add them to a Favorites shortlist. On the other hand, advanced users can tap a server number, and expand a region to view its full list of servers — along with its Ping and Load.
In-app support
Between IPVanish’s Knowledge Base of tutorials and self-help guides, paired with 24/7 live chat, and email-based tickets – there is always a way to find a fix. And now on Android mobile devices, the phone support was expanded by integrating the call capability directly within the app.
The process of developing the new IPVanish app…
IPVanish says that the new user experience is the result of many hours of product research in order to identify what its customers needed most. To that end, IPVanish was looking to find the answers to important questions, such as: How did the average person use IPVanish? What was over-complicated and what went ignored?
Following months of community testing, guided by the user feedback collected by the support and product teams – IPVanish V4 for Android was released. And yes, you can download it right away on pretty much any Android device you have. That, of course, presumes that you’re an IPVanish customer.
