How To Watch Shrill From Anywhere

The popular TV series can be watched on Hulu but that, unfortunately, means it is not available across the globe; except if you're using a VPN...

Shrill has quickly gotten an impressive audience with Hulu renewing the series for the third season. If you haven’t heard of it, the series follows a young woman named Annie who is trying to make it as a journalist while juggling bad boyfriends, sick parents and a perfectionist boss. Yeah, it sounds complicated and even a bit overwhelming, but it’s not. And I’m getting ahead of myself.

Let us first see what Shrill is all about and then we’ll explore how you can watch it from all around the world…

What’s Shrill all about?

Based on the book Shrill: Notes from a Loud Woman by Lindy West, Shrill is a TV series that premiered on March 15, 2019, on Hulu. A month later, it was renewed for a second season that premiered on January 24, 2020; and on March 31, 2020 – Shrill was renewed for a third season.

The series follows Annie, a young woman who wants to change her life – but not her body. Annie is trying to make it as a journalist while juggling bad boyfriends, sick parents and a perfectionist boss — while the world around her deems her not good enough because of her weight. She starts to realize that she’s as good as anyone else, and acts on it.

Shrill main cast and characters include:

  • Aidy Bryant as Annie Easton
  • Lolly Adefope as Fran, Annie’s best friend and roommate
  • Luka Jones as Ryan, Annie’s boyfriend
  • John Cameron Mitchell as Gabe Parrish, Annie’s boss
  • Ian Owens as Amadi, Annie’s co-worker and friend
  • Patti Harrison as Ruthie, Annie’s coworker (season 2; recurring season 1)

On Rotten Tomatoes, Shrill holds an approval rating of 91% based on 45 reviews, with an average rating of 7.83/10. And the score is similar on Metacritic, where the series has a score of 74 out of 100, based on reviews from 26 critics, indicating “generally favorable reviews”.

Kelly Lawler from USA Today gave the series a positive review, calling it an “unflinchingly authentic depiction of a fat woman in the modern world,” and acknowledging that it “flies past positivity and shoots for fat acceptance”. Also, Pop Culture Happy Hour’s Linda Holmes, who is plus-sized, applauded the writers for giving the protagonist the best lines, instead of handing them off to secondary or supporting characters. “Seeing her perform such strong material is a delight,” Holmes writes.

How to watch Shrill online in the US?

If you can access Hulu, you can watch Shrill. Yes, you will have to be a Hulu subscriber, and we think that’s well worth the money considering all the great content that comes with the subscription.

There is a catch, however, as you can’t easily retain your Hulu access when traveling overseas. Then, you will need a VPN in order to trick Hulu’s system into thinking that you’re in the U.S. whereas you can be anywhere on the planet. And that, in case you wonder, is what the next section is all about…

How to watch Shrill from all around the world?

As noted above, you will need a VPN in order to access Hulu from places where it is not available. We know that in some places certain Hulu shows can be watched from HBO Go, but that won’t get you access to Hulu’s entire library — which BTW is rather awesome.

So yes, we understand why people from all around the world want to access Hulu, but that isn’t as straightforward as it should be. For non-Americans, the easiest way to get a Hulu subscription is with a Hulu gift card. You can buy one from MyGiftCardSUPPLY where, in case you wonder, you can also find gift cards for many other media streaming services.

Once you have a Hulu account, you can consume as much content as you want from any place in the world. Just fire-up that VPN, connect to a US-based server and you’re good to go.

Go beyond Shrill…

Shrill is a great show but you should look beyond it when getting a VPN; cause it has a lot to offer…

For start, it will let you anonymously surf the web so that the likes of Facebook and Google, as well as government agencies, can’t know “what you did last summer.”

Furthermore, a good VPN will also let you access other streaming services like US Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, BBC iPlayer and so on. Plus, it will encrypt all your online data to shield you from hackers and spies — which is especially important when connecting to public Wi-Fi hotspots.

A VPN app can be installed on virtually all devices, with the best services also coming with the router support so you could protect your entire network. This in turn will also add an additional security level to devices such as smart TVs, gaming consoles and streaming boxes.

It’s a hectic world out there and we think everyone should have a VPN these days. And if you’re into streaming services like Hulu, we suggest you start with our list of Best VPNs for Streaming and take it from there. We’re sure you’ll find your VPN there. 😉
