The Undoing

You may have heard of The Undoing, HBO’s miniseries starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant but you’re not sure how to watch it from where you live.

As they’re saying, where there is a will – there’s the way. And that “way” has a lot to do with a VPN, which will let you bypass geo-filters used by HBO so you too could join the watching party.

Before we explain how to do that, let us first explain the miniseries for those who still haven’t heard of it.

The Undoing 101

The Undoing is a mystery psychological thriller television miniseries based on the 2014 novel “You Should Have Known” by Jean Hanff Korelitz. It stars Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant and premiered on HBO on October 25, 2020.

The Undoing was the first HBO show to gain viewership every week over the course of the season, and was the biggest U.S. show to launch on Sky in the U.K, beating the record previously held by Game of Thrones. It was also the most-watched show on HBO in 2020.

The premise of the series follows Grace Fraser, a successful psychologist who lives in Manhattan with her husband Jonathan, an oncologist, and their young son Henry, who attends the elite Reardon School. Grace helps some of the other Reardon parents plan an auction event, where she meets an enigmatic woman named Elena. Grace continues to encounter Elena over the next several days and on one of the following days, Elena’s body is discovered in her artist’s studio by her young son, also a Reardon student. The police rule the case a murder and question Grace and her friends. And from there, the action starts rolling… (don’t want to spoil it for you).

The main cast and characters include:

  • Nicole Kidman as Grace Fraser
  • Hugh Grant as Jonathan Fraser
  • Édgar Ramírez as Detective Joe Mendoza
  • Noah Jupe as Henry Fraser
  • Lily Rabe as Sylvia Steinetz
  • Matilda De Angelis as Elena Alves
  • Ismael Cruz Córdova as Fernando Alves
  • Edan Alexander as Miguel Alves
  • Annaleigh Ashford as Alexis Young
  • Fala Chen as Jolene McCall
  • Tarik Davis as Michael Hoffman
  • Michael Devine as Detective Paul O’Rourke

On Rotten Tomatoes, The Undoing holds an approval rating of 77% based on 90 reviews, with an average rating of 7.13/10. The website’s critics consensus reads, “The Undoing is a beautifully shot mystery that benefits greatly from Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant’s performances-if only its story was as strong as its star power.” On Metacritic, it has a weighted average score of 64 out of 100 based on 32 reviews, indicating “generally favorable reviews”.

How to watch The Undoing from around the world?

The situation is straightforward if you’re in the U.S. – just sign-up for HBO Max and access all the great content this service has to offer, The Undoing included.

For other parts of the world, there are other HBO channels that may be airing the series. For instance, I know that you can watch it on HBO Go – which works on smart TVs, computers, phones and tablets.

If that’s also not an option for you, go ahead and sign-up for HBO Max, which offers some of the best movies and TV shows on the planet.

For that, you will need a VPN in order to bypass HBO Max’s geo-blocking servers. You will first have to sign-up for the service and for that you may need a gift card — cause they may require a US-issued credit card. To get one of those, we suggest checking out MyGiftCardSUPPLY, where you can find gift cards for many popular services.

Alternatively, there is a way to sign-up for HBO Max through YouTube TV. Again, you’ll need a VPN to connect to a US server, but this time you’ll want to open a YouTube TV account. When asked for a ZIP code, enter whichever you find online.

Then, you can get the HBO Max add-on to your YouTube TV subscription. Follow the instructions provided on the screen, and before you know it – all HBO Max content will be available at your fingertips.

This may all sound complicated, but in reality – it’s pretty straightforward and well worth the effort. But… you should NOT get a VPN for any single show. Rather…

Get a VPN for everything

Beyond letting you watch one series, a VPN has much, much more to offer. Yes, you can use it for a single series, but that’s overkill.

The key feature a VPN brings to the table is its ability to keep you anonymous online so that Facebook, Google, and various government agencies can’t follow you around. A VPN does this by routing all Internet traffic through its servers that are placed around the world. A VPN also encrypts all data coming to and from your devices, making for a much more secure experience. And by doing this, it keeps you protected when using public Wi-Fi hotspots.

Considering that everyone wants a piece of our data these days, we think everyone should be using a VPN. Heck, that’s the main reason why we’ve created VPN Reports in the first place.

To get started, visit our page with Best VPNs for HBO Max and make your pick. All services on that list have been field-tested and you can hardly go wrong by picking any one of them. Heck, even if you don’t like what you get – there is always an option to ask for your money back during the first 30 days (or so). Yes, it is a risk-free transaction and we like it for that. 😉
