Paramount+

While Netflix is struggling to keep subscribers, its rivals have been growing in recent weeks. One of them is Paramount+, which announced a net addition of 3.7 million subscribers — bringing its total subscriber count to 43.3 million, up from 39.6 million last quarter. What’s more, the total would have been 4.9 million subs if it had not been for the removal of 1.2 million Russian subscribers due to the country’s invasion of Ukraine.

According to the company’s CEO Bob Bakish, they are “bullish about growth going forward” with the goal of reaching 100 million Paramount+ subscribers by 2024.

“Paramount+ captured the most sign-ups, gross and net subscriber additions of any premium domestic streaming service in the quarter according to Antenna’s June 2022 Report,” the company stated in its earnings report. “Paramount+ subscriber growth was partially driven by successful international market launches, including the U.K., Ireland, and South Korea.”

Across Paramount Global’s streaming services — which span Paramount+, Pluto TV, Showtime, Noggin and BET+ — the company reached 63.7 million users, up from 62.4 million at the end of Q1 2022. This reflects a growth of 1.7 million, and again it would have been 5.2 million global subscribers added before the removal of 3.9 million subscribers in Russia.

When it comes to revenue, it grew 120% for Paramount+, as overall subscription revenue rose 74% year-over-year to $830 million. In June, the service launched in South Korea, the U.K. and Ireland — with plans to expand into Austria, France, Germany, Italy and Switzerland later this year.

Pluto TV remains “the No. 1 free ad-supported streaming TV service in the U.S,” as it increased the number of global monthly active users to almost 70 million.

Although Paramount+ keeps growing, it is still trailing HBO Max with its 76.8 million subscribers, Disney+ (137.9 million) and, of course, Netflix, which is still the king of this game with 220.67 million subscribers.

And if you want to watch Paramount+ from your country — if it’s still not available — there’s an app for that. It’s called VPN and it will do many things for you, including allowing you to access all streaming services you’d like. Most importantly, it will let you be more anonymous online, which we think is what the VPN is all about in the first place.
